This morning as I was watching TV a commercial came on by one of those big churches, saying they will be talking about the issue next Sunday and how bad it will be if we have health care reform. I was struck by the question, what does this church or any other church, have to gain by scare tactics? Which leads to the next question who is paying them to preach against health care reform?
I’m not in to the political thing all that much, perhaps I should be, but when I do pay attention it just makes me more depressed then I usually am, which is a dangerous thing actually. But on this issue I am going to speak my mind and as a few questions.
I have heard some of the scare tactics against it, like if you are too old you will be put down. My question is, what is the difference? Really if you do not have health insurance and can’t afford insurance and you are getting old is any hospital going to try to keep you alive? Especially if there is no profit in it for them? Case in point, my grandmother had money and could afford insurance and did have it. She had an aneurism, her doctor told her nothing could be done about it. When it did finally burst, the hospital tried to keep her on life support, even though that doctor said there is nothing any one could do about it. I asked if she would know what was going on around her and he replied doubtful, but maybe in the future we can fix it.
They did not give a toot for her health, they just wanted the money from the health insurance. She made me promise not to allow them to hook her up to life support because she knew there was nothing that could be done. But the doctor went through the ‘act’ of asking her if she wanted to be on life support, this is after he told me personally that she did was not aware of what was going on around her.
Now if grandma did not have money or insurance do you think they would try to put her on life support? You know as well as I do that they would not, simply cause of the fact there was no money in it for them. Plus they would probably ask if it would be alright to give her something for the pain and let her pass away in peace.
What ever happened to The Hippocratic Oath ? I think there are some doctors out there that still are in health care because they still believe in helping those that need it, but in my mind not enough. Sorry got off track.
I guess plain and simple, if there is no money it is, lets scare the living daylights out of the general public so it does not pass. It really has nothing to do with becoming a socialist country, or having sub-prime care. Any time there is scare tactics involved it is time to sit up and take notice and look at the situation.
Any ways, that is my piece of mind on the subject, long winded I realize, might not make any sense. And probably will not sway anyone either way, which is not my intent. Just felt the need to toss my 2 cents in for anyone to read.
